Outlawed

Ada married young and as she hasn’t gotten pregnant within the year, her husband’s mother drives her away. She goes back to help her mother who is a midwife. Then the young married women in town start accusing her when they have miscarriages. Ada flees to the convent.

However, she doesn’t quite fit in there either, so she joins a gang of outlaws, all women who were driven away from their marriages lead by “The Kid”. Ada’s knowledge of herbs and anatomy due to her midwifery past quickly makes her a valued member of the gang.

When they decide to rob a bank, they need some extra people to help and the gang recruits a few men…

I absolutely loved this book: it had me hooked from the first sentence: “In the year of our Lord 1894, I became an outlaw.”

The prose is beautiful, the storyline had me on the edge of my seat throughout. An absolutely wonderful read and I highly recommend it.
