Bridget Jones’s Diary by Helen Fielding

Bridget Jones's Diary

Book 1 of the Bridget Jones Series

Bridget Jones works at a newspaper and spends a considerable amount of time at work sending flirty messages to her boss Daniel who initiated this by making comments about her very short skirt. She’s forever trying to lose weight, drink and smoke less and find someone to date.

Her mother would quite like her to date Mark, who she first met as a small child. However, now they’ve met again, the relationship doesn’t seem to go anywhere. Bridget always seems to say the wrong thing around him and he’s just far too serious. Bridget’s relationship with Daniel is frustrating as well as he doesn’t want to commit to her.

I read this book when it first came out, many moons ago, and absolutely adored it. Now that I’ve read it again, I still quite like it, but Bridget’s antics seem a little out there. I guess I have grown up and calmed down. I found it easy to relate to Bridget the first time round as we were around the same age, and I too was always trying to lose weight – and quit smoking and not drink too much (although my drinking alcohol was limited to the weekends back then).

Four stars as I really enjoyed it still!
