Amazing Grace Adams by Fran Littlewood

Grace Adams is a beautiful 40-something woman whose marriage has just crashed and she’s having a really bad day! She has a total meltdown when she’s only trying to collect her daughter’s birthday cake.

The book jumps back in time, to the time she met her husband Ben, and to when she found out she was pregnant with her daughter Lotte. And most importantly to the events leading up to Grace’s breakdown.

I tried hard to identify with Grace, like her, I’m a polyglot but unlike her, I didn’t go into teaching or translating. I didn’t like Grace until about halfway through the book. She’d suddenly grown on me…

The last few chapters broke my heart, but thankfully all came back together. All in all a solid 3.5/4 stars. Contemporary fiction is a bit hit and miss for me, this is not quite a hit, but definitely not a miss either,
