Lydia lives in Acapulco with her wonderful husband, who is a journalist, and their son Luca. Lydia’s life is comfortable, until her husband writes an exposé on the drug cartel’s king pin in Acapulco. Her husband is murdered and Lydia takes Luca and runs.
The book follows the two of them on their way to the United States. They meet several people on the way, the two Guatemalan sisters who are running from an abusive guy (who thought he was the boyfriend of one of them) and so many others.
This book is so good. It’s heart-wrenching to see what people have to put themselves through just to get to the United States. This book should be part of the curriculum for all highschools in the USA.
