This is book 3 of the Fairmile.
This book follows the lives of the Pokanoket servant to Ned Ferryman, Rowan, the lady in waiting to the Queen, Livia and Ned’s sister Alinor and her daughter Alys.
Ned returns from the Americas with his servant Rowan to take part int Monmouth’s uprising against King James. Rowan is arrested and sent to Barbados as an indentured servant. She’s dressed as a man and has taken the name Ned Ferryman. She’s sold to a sugar plantation owner who makes her his valet when he learns she can read and write.
Livia schemes on behalf of the Queen without the queen’s knowledge. She also tries to marry her son off, and not to the girl Matteo is in love with.
Alinor meets the love of her life again after all these years…
Philippa Gregory is the queen of the historical novel, although I do prefer her Tudor and Plantagenet series, I do enjoy this series as well.
